We're not just a fun statement...
It’s for good causes too
At iloveridingmy.bike we’re all lifelong cyclists. It’s given us a lot in terms of fun, fitness, transport and headspace. So we felt that we wanted to give something back and help others enjoy this fantastically simple but empowering machine.
To keep the grin spreading as far and as wide as possible, our ultimate aim is to bring the joy of cycling and bicycle ownership to those who really need it or would enjoy it most. There’s no point in reinventing the wheel here, as there are already some well established charitable organisations, doing sterling work, both in the UK and with less developed communities around the world.
So we're currently supporting the following charities, who will benefit from an annual donation out of our profits...
In the developed world, most of us take bicycle ownership for granted and the use of bikes is more out of choice than necessity. We ride for leisure, for sport, or as an alternative to less environmentally friendly forms of transport. This charity epitomises the life-changing joy and empowerment of owning a bicycle in less developed parts of the world, to support education, health and economic development.
Founded in 2005, World Bicycle Relief mobilises people through "The Power of Bicycles" and accomplishes its mission by distributing its specially-designed, high-quality 'Buffalo' bicycles through philanthropic and social enterprise programs in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America.
It also promotes local economies and long-term sustainability by assembling bicycles locally and training field mechanics to service the bicycles. To date, World Bicycle Relief has delivered over 375,000 bicycles and trained over 1,800 field mechanics. It has assembly facilities in Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Angola.
Closer to home, the infrastructure of our road network has developed to cater more for motorised than muscle-powered transport and most cyclists know the frustrations and potential dangers of mixing with vehicles on the public roads. Sustrans is the standard bearer for promoting safer, family-friendly cycling throughout the UK. With over 14,000 miles of routes to explore, they’re getting more of us out on our bikes more often.
